Gothic Pals route

As the best preserved medieval villages in Catalonia, Pals has beautiful stone pavement streets flanked by splendid houses. In Pals every little corner has real significance: an old castle or Torre de les Hores (s.XI-XII), l'església de Sant Pere (a Gothic church dating back to 904), an astonishing walls with four towers remaining, la plaça Major (a centric square) where a Gothic arch puts an end to the in-wall zone.

Pals was the first rehabilitate medieval village within the region and has been honoured with the following awards:

• 1973 Premi Nacional de Belles Arts. (Fine Arts National Award)
• 1980 Premi Nacional de Belles Arts i Turisme. (Fine Arts and Turism National Award)
• 1986 Medalla d'Honor del Turisme de Catalunya concedida per la Generalitat (Medal of Honor from the Turism of Catalonia, this award is by the Generality of Catalonia )

Within the train the visitor will travell to the Gothic enclosed area, in a short and charming journey of 5 minutes. We will get off the train and go up the stairs that will take us directly to the church square, the highest point on the hill. We will take a 30-minute guided walking tour through the irregular and labyrinthine streets of the old town. While walking, we will discover silent and timeless alleys, loaded with a rustic and charming beauty, which envelops the walker and transports him to another era. To return to the point of departure, we can board the train again. If you prefer, you can finish walking through some alleys, all the while walking down the hill.
