Perched on a hill in the province of Girona, in Baix Emporda, Pals is know for its medieval village, a place of great value artistically and historically. Pals is known for being one of the best preserved medieval villages in Catalonia.

As the best preserved medieval villages in Catalonia, Pals has beautiful stone pavement streets flanked by splendid houses. In Pals every little corner has real significance: an old castle or Torre de les Hores (s.XI-XII), l'església de Sant Pere (a Gothic church dating back to 904), an astonishing walls with four towers remaining, la plaça Major (a centric square) where a Gothic arch puts an end to the in-wall zone.

Pals was the first rehabilitate medieval village within the region and has been honoured with the following awards:
  • 1973 Premi Nacional de Belles Arts. (Fine Arts National Award)
  • 1980 Premi Nacional de Belles Arts i Turisme. (Fine Arts and Turism National Award)
  • 1986 Medalla d'Honor del Turisme de Catalunya concedida per la Generalitat (Medal of Honor from the Turism of Catalonia, this award is by the Generality of Catalonia )
Within the train the visitor will travell to the Gothic enclosed area, where on his own will be able to find out more about the beauty of this unique village. We will stop next to the stairs that lead to the church and take a guided walk through the streets of the old town. We will go around and get to know different corners for about half an hour and then we will take the train again to return to the starting point.
